I must say, it feels great to have completely removed WhatsApp. A few more groups can now be marked as complete, and making the switch really encouraged others to join in. I'm confident that more groups will follow suit.
For example, in some groups there are now two separate chats—one on WhatsApp and one on Signal—which many found very annoying. I totally understand; I would feel the same way. Since I deleted WhatsApp, Signal is now the only option, prompting other group members to urge the last holdouts to switch over.
Time will tell, but things are looking promising. I'm enjoying the newfound silence—it really feels like I'm less bogged down by constant messaging. Sure, I could have achieved a simpler setup with WhatsApp, but this experiment turned out to be a refreshing change. It forced me to reassess my groups and decide whether it was worth moving them over, which even led to eliminating quite a few groups.
Do I fear missing out? Not at all. If something important happens, people can always contact me.
Honestly, it really helped that several friends on Signal actively advocated for the switch. It made the transition a lot easier. My wife was fully on board with the experiment as well, and since we share many common groups, that added extra momentum.
To me, this experiment feels like a resounding success. You might argue that it's not perfect because more groups remain partially moved than fully transitioned. However, the groups that haven't fully switched are either very large, infrequently used, or less important to me. All the essential groups—the ones I use the most—have already switched over.
I'll keep this post updated with the stats until there's enough progress to justify a separate update. In the meantime, I'll continue tracking everything as best as I can.
Thanks for following along!
